POINT PINOS` LIGHTHOUSE
From our trip to California this last August.
Point Pinos Light was built in 1855 to guide ships on the Pacific coast of California. It is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States and even the lens is original. Alcatraz Island Lighthouse preceded Point Pinos by 8 months, but was replaced in 1909 by the expanding military prison. It is still an active Coast Guard aid to navigation. Museum exhibits and other functions are operated by the city of Pacific Grove, Monterey County, California. The lighthouse is surrounded by the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Links.
The present light source, located 89 feet above sea level, is a 1 kilowatt bulb, which produces a 50,000 candela beam visible under favorable conditions up to 15 miles distant. Formerly, the light had a rigid schedule of being lit one hour prior to sunset, and extinguished one hour after sunrise. With automation completed in 1975, a small battery-operated back-up strobe light was installed outside the tower, and the main light was turned on permanently. The present signal has a simple 3-second on/1-second off signature. As a further navigational aid, a Class D radio beacon operated continuously which had a range of up to 20 miles. A foghorn was also located below the lighthouse closer to shore which could be turned on manually by the Coast Guard personnel when lack of visibility warranted its use. With the advent of global positioning satellite navigation in 1993, the radio beacon and foghorn were deactivated.

The Dutch Windmill
A picture of the Dutch Windmill in San Francisco, California I took on August 7th of 2010. I did this picture in an HDR to bring the colors to life.
In 1903, a pair of Dutch-style windmills were built at the extreme western end of the park. These pumped water throughout the park. The north windmill has been restored to its original appearance and is adjacent to a flower garden, a gift of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. These are planted with tulip bulbs for winter display and other flowers in appropriate seasons. Murphy's Windmill in the south of the park is currently being restored.

EGMONT KEY LIGHTHOUSE
Yesterday, we went out on our neighbor's boat around the bay. We did a bit of snorkeling (we tend to call it "snoggeling"). Our neighbor caught a fish and we cruised around the bay. We love lighthouses and was glad to catch this view. All of us are some shade of red today. Perfect weekend for a boat ride.

PFEIFFER BEACH, BIG SUR CA
Back at the beginning of August, took a drive down HWY 1 south from Monterey, CA and visited Big Sur. I had to stop at this beach to take a picture of this holy rock!! Rule of thumb, if you visit Pfeiffer Beach, NEVER forget to pay the parking...the attendant will hunt you down. Wonderful place to visit.

Trip to California
We
went to California for a weeks vacation just to get out of Florida and enjoy some cooler weather. We did some hiking and alot of driving down highway 1!
These are a couple of pics I took on the trip.
The bridge Is Bixby Bridge. The one with the pool is at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Ca.
Did some hiking at Pinnacles National Monument and explored the cave also! I wanna go back someday.

I just got back from spending time in Springfield, Missouri with friends and family. It was a wonderful trip! I took plenty of pictures and played some music with my old band The Front Porch Swingers.
My wife and I traveled up to Caplinger Mills, Missouri to take some beautiful picture of an old mill that has been abandoned for a long time, and here is the results in the top right picture.
The picture to the left is of the Greenway Trail in Springfield, Missouri.
The picture of the wood burning stove I took as 3 seperate images and merged them together as an HDR image. I think it turned out pretty good.
